ACTION BIOMALI programme final results

The programme ACTION BIOMALI, co-financed by the European Union and implemented from 2005 to 2009 by Fondation Mérieux, had the general objective to increase screening and biological follow-up of patients affected by HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Mali and the surrounding areas, through the strengthening of local biological capacities.

Winner of the Grand Prize for International Volunteers in Enterprise (VIE)

Jonathan Hoffman, in charge of setting up the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory in Madagascar, received the Grand Prize for the International Volunteers in Enterprise (VIE) organized for the first time in Madagascar by the Advisors of the External Commerce of France (CCEF), Ubifrance and the Economic Mission of the French Embassy.

Progress in the support of patients living with HIV / AIDS in Laos

On the 6 August 2009, the Centre Christophe Mérieux in Laos, Laotian training and research centre, signed a collaboration agreement with the HIV / AIDS / IST (CHAS) Centre in Laos for the introduction of viral load in this country in order to strengthen the follow-up of patients undergoing antiviral treatment.

The development of regulatory authorities and process of post marketing surveillance in developing countries

This seminar held in Les Pensières, 29–31 March, gathered invited experts from the WHO, several National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), non-governmental organizations and agencies, as well as expert representatives from several vaccine manufacturing organizations. The focus points of the meeting were: the mechanisms for assessing the safety, in use, of licenced vaccines particularly in vulnerable populations of public health programs, and the potential for enhancements of these. Vaccines are powerful public health interventions, but their nature as biological medicines and their wide-spread use in infants, and other vulnerable populations, means that their use will be associated with adverse events.

Second round of the European fellowship program for African researchers into NTDs
