Fondation Mérieux has set up an international network of research laboratories at the core of infectious outbreaks, with the support of Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux: the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratories.
Already established in Mali, Cambodia, Laos and Haiti, laboratories will soon follow in Madagascar and Lebanon, as they provide a means to conduct high-level scientific research.
The Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratories focus on the following areas:
-
Perform complex medical tests which are not currently available locally, without competing with existing local laboratories;
-
Support research programmes (for example AIDS and multiresistant tuberculosis);
-
Conduct their own epidemiological research programmes;
-
Improve biological training by setting up long-term partnerships between public hospital laboratories and universities.
Located near or as part of medical schools, they are available to students for work on pathologies specific to their country.
