As part of its mission to strengthen local capacities, Fondation Mérieux has begun the construction of an operational research and training centre in infectious diseases at the University of Antananarivo. This centre includes a P2 type laboratory for molecular biology, designed for amplification techniques and molecular detection (Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory), a practical room and a conference room.
Partnered with the Health Minister and the University, the centre is running since early 2010, welcoming students from the 3rd cycle at the Faculty of Medicine and Science. It is also a place of training for biologists and laboratory technicians working in Antananarivo and neighbouring regions.
The conference room is a meeting place to share information on topics related to the study of infectious diseases (epidemiology, public health, molecular biology etc.)
