Training Experts
Fondation Mérieux has been holding the ADVAC, Advanced Course of Vaccinology, course at « Les Pensières » since 2000. This course is designed for academic, hospital and occupational physicians involved in the local, regional or international decision-making areas in the field of vaccinology.
The ADVAC course is run in partnership with the University of Geneva. It is sponsored by the European Commission and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. ADVAC is held each year at Fondation Mérieux's « Les Pensières » conference center near Annecy, France.
Participants from all over the world
About 60 students are selected every year by the ADVAC scientific committee. They come from about 40 different countries, particularly from developing countries in Latin America, Africa, India, Asia and Central Europe. The courses are taught by some of the most recognized international scientific experts in immunology, new vaccine development, vaccination ethics, and other fields.
In order for the participants to acquire expertise on vaccinology as a whole, all the scientific, economic, social and even political aspects are presented and studied. The conferences and workshops also focus on setting up clinical tests for vaccines, new vaccines under development and research on the vaccination of pregnant women.
Intensive training with a wealth of experience
During the two weeks of intensive ADVAC training, the participants take part in courses, group work and have exercises to complete. It is a unique and extremely successful formula, that focuses on discussions and exchanges of ideas. For several years now, the accent has been on studying actual situations and sharing the different experiences of the speaker and the students. ADVAC is an exceptional opportunity to share experience and knowledge.
