Establishment of a bacterial resistance surveillance system in Senegal

  • Survey on the state of antibiograms; out of 40 laboratories, 29 were visited in 11 out of 14 regions of Senegal.

  • Survey of antibiotic resistance phenotypes documented 6,536 strains isolated in 25 laboratories.

  • Training of a member of each laboratory, 30 participants, on the technical and interpretative reading of antibiograms

  • Purchase of reference strains and consumables to support laboratories that do not have them

  • The planned monitoring began in January 2015 with a monthly collection of data on the sensitivities of the bacteria to various antibiotics.
