Fondation Mérieux’s Mission

Established in 1967 by Docteur Charles Mérieux, Fondation Mérieux was awarded official charitable status in 1976

Its mission is to strengthen local capacities in developing countries to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on vulnerable population.

Its action is based around four main priorities:

  • Clinical biology laboratories

  • Collaborative research programmes

  • Training and éxchange of knowledge

  • Support to local initiatives

Since its creation, the Foundation gives priority to the opening and partnership initiating and leading a major international scientific network. It plays a catalysing role in both local and international initiatives acting invariably under the same objective of improving public health.

With the support of Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux, equally a family foundation, it is in the process of developing a network of biological laboratories in the field dedicated to research and training in the heart of infectious areas.

The Foundation is currently working in Mali, Cambodia, Laos, Haiti, Madagascar and China.
