Inauguration of the IMIS Institute equipped with a Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory

This new institute shelters two research laboratories, the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory and the Warren D Johnson Jr. Medical Centre.

Fondation Mérieux ensured the installation of the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory and analysis and reactive equipment. An expert biologist, Marie Gauthier, was appointed to the development of the research programmes of the laboratory in collaboration with the teams of Professor Pape.

These new infrastructures will allow a better consideration of the needs of the Haitian population, severely affected by many infectious pathogens. They will offer a great number of services taking charge of patients infected by tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS, sexually transmissible infections and will give antenatal care.

Run by local public health actors, the purpose of the Rodolphe Mérieux laboratories are to be integrated into the local health structures in order to strengthen the research capacities and training in the biomedical field. They allow the setting up, by local professionals, of a high level of scientific research. Equipped with the latest diagnosis equipement, they can carry out complex biological analyses.

The Rodolphe Mérieux laboratories were conceived to respond to the local infections priorities by the development of work clinics or research in molecular and medical biology. They are globally dedicated to applied biological research in the field of infectious diseases affecting developing countries.
