Increasing vocations in the field of international cooperation

On 19 June 2007, Fondation Merieux, in partnerships with the BSF (Biologie Sans Frontières) organised a meeting for interne doctors in biology. Both the organisations presented their actions in the field in order to increase vocations in international cooperation.

General Director of Fondation Merieux and President of BSF expressed their will to act in more coordinated manner in regard to their work in the field.

Benoit Miribel, Director General of Fondation Merieux, Youssouf Issabre, Director of Charles Merieux Center in Bamako (Mali) and Catherine Dutel, programme coordinator, presented the activities of Fondation Merieux carried out in Madagascar, Mali, Cambodia and Haiti. The future projects and the guinding principles of the Fondation were also discussed.

Christian Collombel (President), Yves Gille and Michel Helfre, leaders of BSF, presented their actions in Sub-Saharienne Africa – Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Congo, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Togo –, and in Asia – Afghanistan, Vietnam. The objectifs of their projets are to rehabilitate, create and equip small laboratories in the field. At the same time, they setting up technical and administrative training for technicians and biologists.

Christiane Cire, a biologist, explained her experiences in Bamako, in the Rodolphe Merieux Laboratory of Fondation Merieux, and in Kabul in the hospital laboratory created by the 'chaine de l'espoir'. She encouraged the interne doctors of biology to embark on these experiences which are unforgettable human adventures and a very concret apprenticeship.

At the end of this meeting, Christian Collombel and Benoit Miribel, repeated to the interne doctors the interest for them to become involved in the international cooperation. A unique opportunity to help and to learn.
