Mixed respiratory infections

14 October 2008, Lyon (France)

Bronchiolitis represent a main issue of world public health and more and more infants are hospitalized for serious respiratory distress due to these viral lung infections.

The bronchiolitis is the most severe acute infection of the lower respiratory tracts for less than 2 years old children and especially for less that 6 months infants. The presence of one or more pathogens can influence the natural history of the bronchiolitis of hospitalized infants and children. A better knowledge of different pathogens causing bronchiolitis is necessary before taking care of hospitalized children and future medical orientations. The article below represents a review on the subject with results obtained by the Laboratory of Emerging Pathogens of Fondation Mérieux in collaboration with the paediatric service of Hospices Civils de Lyon.
