One of the responsibilities of the Emerging Pathogens Laboratory is to develop the skills of personnel in laboratories belonging to the GABRIEL network. Several training modules and practical workshops have been designed for the personnel and are delivered in support and training facilities around the world.

Transferring skills

Each year, around 50 researchers receive training on a range of topics related to infectious diseases and research laboratory management: immunology, biosafety, diagnostic tools, research protocols, quality standards and processes, etc. Other modules train personnel on new equipment or new screening tests to improve the diagnosis of a disease targeted by our Scientific Department.

Promoting research

The Mérieux Foundation and Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux have launched several initiatives to promote scientific research and recognize the work of researchers fighting against infectious diseases in developing countries:

  • The annual 500,000 euro Christophe Mérieux Prize is awarded by Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux through the Institut de France to encourage research on infectious disease in developing countries.
  • The Young Researcher’s Prize: since 2014, the GABRIEL network’s Research Committee has awarded this prize to scientists in the network to enable them to complete their research projects and present their work at international scientific conferences.
