Health is an essential element in the majority of the Millennium Development Goals for which support is most needed, especially in developing countries. Health system strengthening and local capacity building are essential for reaching these goals and for helping these countries fight infectious diseases as well as implementing International Health Regulations (IHR).
The Fondation Mérieux’s 3 complementary programmes aim to:
-
Strengthen national biomedical laboratory systems in order to improve the diagnostic, surveillance and care of infectious diseases;
-
Strengthen global health research capacity in strong partnership with local actors in order to develop solutions adapted to their specific context;
-
Enabling the more vulnerable populations – in particular women and children - to increase their access to health services and in thus to better care and cope with infectious diseases.
