The Clinton Global Citizen Awards were created in 2007 to distinguish ‘visionary’ people who are committed to solving global problems.
Through their work, these citizens have proved that diverse sectors of society (philanthropy, public health etc.) can successfully work together to implement and design solutions for lasting social change.
The winners are chosen by world leaders and members of the Clinton Global Initiative. They are chosen and honoured for their innovative approaches and sustainable results.
By awarding him this prize, the Clinton Global Initiative rewards Dr. Pape for his considerable contribution to public health in Haiti and more particularly for the research and fight against AIDS, through the creation, in 1983, of the GHESKIO Centers (historical partner of Fondation Mérieux).
Doctor Pape has also received the Christophe Mérieux Prize and the Gates Foundation Prize this year.
