PCV II

Second prospective multicountry pneumococcal colonization research in children and adults.

Timeline

Since 2022Active

Context

The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), although available since the year 2000, has only recently been introduced in low-income countries. It is therefore important to focus on the serotypes circulating in children under 5 years old, as part of a pneumococcal vaccination program.

This study aims to establish a central protocol to generate high quality and specificity serotype prevalence data that allow the study of the transmission pattern and the direct or indirect impact of PCV, in Cambodia.

Objective

To measure pneumococcal colonization rates and predominant circulating serotypes among healthy children under 5, and their parents in low-income countries where PCV is being introduced.
