Laos

Our work in Laos involves reinforcing the fight against infectious diseases by contributing our expertise in order to strengthen the national healthcare and laboratory system.

Improving diagnostics and surveillance

Our goal in Laos is to guarantee reliable, accessible diagnostics for the population, even in the most remote areas of the country.

We are thus involved in activities to strengthen infrastructure such as public and private laboratories, as well as providing high-performance equipment and supporting the supply of reagents and consumables. We also train staff from public and private laboratories in a range of practices, from microbiology to quality management.

Advancing public health

Antimicrobial resistance

Faced with the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in Southeast Asia, we are working to strengthen the skills of laboratory technicians in the human and animal health sectors. The actions we have put in place are improving the identification of resistant bacteria, optimizing the use of antibiotics, and strengthening epidemiological surveillance. We prioritize an integrated approach to encourage collaboration between the veterinary and medical sectors based on the “One Health” paradigm.

Tuberculosis

To tackle tuberculosis, we support diagnostic laboratories by providing them with advanced tools and training technicians in analysis techniques, particularly in molecular biology.

Strengthening research capacity and knowledge sharing

We are working to develop healthcare infrastructure and upgrade the skills of diagnostics professionals by integrating hospital laboratories into a structured national network.

We also support local research by involving Laotian researchers in infectious disease analysis projects, while promoting the training of laboratory technicians. We organize symposia and practical workshops to encourage knowledge sharing and improvements in laboratory practices, ensuring more effective patient care.
