The online course INSEQBIN (Introduction to Next-Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics), developed by the Mérieux Foundation and FIND, introduces the fundamentals of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics. It was launched on September 16, 2024.
The course focuses on the principles of Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencing technologies.
Through six training modules, learners will explore the fundamentals of sequencing, with an emphasis on the crucial role of bioinformatics and the challenges inherent to sequencing. The course will cover key steps in bioinformatics analyses applied to sequencing, including:
- Quality assessment and cleaning of raw data
- Sequence assembly
- Result annotation
- Sequence alignment
- Identification of genetic variants
By the end of the training, participants will have acquired an understanding of the essential concepts of bioinformatics, as well as a basic foundation that can be further developed through hands-on training with the tools introduced during the course.
The course is fully online and designed to be completed at the learner’s own pace, with an estimated completion time of 4 to 6 weeks (approximately 10 hours of actual computer-based work).
A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the course, provided participants successfully pass the final assessment.
Who can enroll?
- Students in biology, bioinformatics, genetics, or related disciplines who wish to discover next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics.
- Laboratory technicians involved in projects using sequencing who wish to understand and analyze sequencing data.
- Researchers in biology, genetics, medicine, and bioinformatics who wish to deepen their knowledge in order to better interpret and make use of sequencing data.
A basic knowledge of biology and molecular biology is required.
