The workshop offered a dynamic format, combining interactive presentations, team-building games, and case studies.
The workshop brought together laboratory heads, provincial managers, and health experts with the central goal of improving laboratory management and strengthening communication and teamwork. The event included a series of interactive presentations and practical activities designed to strengthen the management of everyday laboratory tasks while encouraging a collaborative approach between the country’s provinces.
The discussions addressed several essential themes, such as improving management and leadership skills within laboratory teams, strengthening the ability to communicate between teams to improve effectiveness and coordination, and promoting experience sharing between provinces for better laboratory management.
The workshop offered a dynamic format combining interactive presentations, team building games, and case studies. This approach enabled participants to consolidate their knowledge while forging lasting links with colleagues from other provinces. Role playing and practical exercises boosted team cohesion, giving participants a better understanding of the importance of laboratory management at the provincial and national levels.
At the end of the workshop, attendees discussed the actions to be taken to perpetuate the lessons and the practices they had learned over the two days. The event laid the foundations for stronger commitment to collaboration between teams and more effective hospital laboratory management across the country.
The workshop is part of the Mérieux Foundation’s ambition to support the long-term development of local capacity, contributing to the quality of health services in Laos.
About the project
The BoliLab project was launched following the construction of the new provincial hospital in Bolikhamxay, financed by LuxDev and opened in July 2018. In collaboration with the provincial health department and the NCLE, the Mérieux Foundation is supporting the development of medical biology laboratories in the provinces of Bolikhamxay, Vientiane, and Khammouane with the aim of improving the quality of diagnostic services and integrating them into the national network.
It also aims to strengthen staff skills, optimize management processes and enhance the leadership of laboratory managers. The extension of the project includes an inter-province training program and support for refurbishments and new facilities. By strengthening the capacity of provincial laboratories, BoliLab is helping to improve access to reliable, high-quality diagnostics for local populations.
