Access to diagnosis
Decentralization of tuberculosis diagnosis
Since 2008, we have carried out a program, with the Chinese Ministry of Health, to decentralize the diagnosis of tuberculosis and its resistance to treatment with the support of Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux. The aim is to improve local care capacity in regions where the disease is particularly prevalent. Our program has helped define a strategic model for the implementation of combined tuberculosis prevention and control policies by all the health structures in the territories, which also helps to fight against extreme poverty.
After a first phase for the Zhejiang and Heilongjang regions, and a second phase for the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, the project is entering its third phase dedicated to Nujiang Prefecture in Yunnan Province, a region with one of the highest prevalence rates of tuberculosis and multi-resistant tuberculosis in the country.
