Myanmar

In Myanmar, we are working to fight infectious diseases by developing access to high-quality diagnostics in national laboratories, especially for HIV.

Improving diagnostics and surveillance

In Myanmar, having overhauled several laboratory services and provided training for all staff, we are now placing our commitment to the country’s analytical laboratories on a long-term footing.

In particular, we are supporting the national program to combat HIV/AIDS by strengthening access to virology diagnostics. This project supports eight open molecular platforms for monitoring HIV viral load, while extending diagnostic provision to other pathogens such as hepatitis B and SARS-CoV-2. In addition, the Foundation is contributing to the development of microbiology at the Mandalay Public Health Laboratory, a key player in the control of epidemics in the north of the country, by strengthening the capacity and expertise of its bacteriology department.
