
The Mérieux Foundation Lebanon team at the event
Representatives of local and international partners were present, including Dr. Myrna Germanos, president of the Syndicat des Biologistes du Liban (Lebanese biologists’ union), Dr. Hiam Yaacoub, director of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s national tuberculosis control program, Dr. Rami Kenzo, representing the company Qiagen, and Professor Eid Azar, director of the Infectious Diseases Department at Saint George Hospital.
The Mérieux Foundation team in Lebanon and Dr. Marianne Antar, head biologist at the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory representing Saint-Joseph University in Beirut, attended the event.
Dr. Josette Najjar, Middle East and North Africa regional manager at the Mérieux Foundation, presented the results of the study, carried out in partnership with the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory, entitled “Optimizing Lebanon’s Screening Strategy for TB Infection National Study Results”, and the recommendations for the national tuberculosis control program.
The main themes addressed at the meeting included screening for tuberculosis in high-risk populations, optimizing national strategies, and recommendations to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals.
