Supported by the Mérieux Foundation via the third phase of the RESAOLAB project, Senegal's Laboratories Directorate organized a diagnostic workshop from April 8 to 11, 2025, in Thiès. The workshop is part of the change of direction introduced by the new authorities in the Laboratories Directorate.

The aim of the workshop was to review the structure and operation of the Laboratories Directorate (LD) in relation to the tasks entrusted to it. For this reason, the LD chose to work with the Organization and Methods Office (BOM), a body providing support to the government.

The workshop was led by three BOM facilitators, and brought together around 50 institutional representatives for plenary sessions and group work encouraging interaction and information sharing.

The four-day workshop provided an opportunity to review the LD’s missions and internal structure, and their alignment with the activities entrusted to it in terms of the human, financial, and material resources mobilized. It was also a chance to discuss the Directorate’s processes, procedures, and stakeholders, and to identify its strengths and areas for improvement.

At the end of the workshop, a document analyzing the LD’s missions, structure, resources, and operations was produced, along with an analytical matrix of the players in the process and a SWOT analysis sheet.

The workshop was the first stage in a full organizational audit implemented by the LD in its search for ever-greater efficiency. It will be followed by various initiatives enabling Senegal to review its national strategic plan for laboratories, including an inventory of the laboratory system.

This work is receiving financial and organizational support from the Mérieux Foundation as part of the RESAOLAB project, which has been closely involved with the LD since its foundation in 2009.
