Professor François-Henri Nosten
François Nosten created the Shoklo Research Unit in Mae Sot, Thailand in 1986. Within the unit 200 Thaï employees and 14 expatriates work on stocks of paludism classified as among the most resistant in the world.
The unit developed a new anti-malarial combination, that is now recommended by WHO. If a drug is developed, it could be applied in all the parts of the world. This unit also became a Centre of reference for NGOs working in the region and a training centre for young researchers.
