Support for Laboratories

The Mérieux Foundation creates a new medical laboratory in Svay Rieng Provincial Hospital

December 19, 2012 - Cambodia

The Mérieux Foundation has redeveloped several medical laboratories in public hospitals in Cambodia, such as Takeo Hospital laboratory, the National Hospital of Khmer-Soviet friendship... to help improve the quality of care.

In 2011, the microbiology laboratory of Kossamak Hospital was inaugurated.

The redevelopment of these laboratories improves hygiene and safety, the working comfort and motivation of staff and provides a better biological diagnosis for the Cambodian population.

In 2012, following requests from the Ministry of Health of Cambodia to strengthen provincial laboratories, a collaboration with Svay Rieng Hospital was initiated in south-eastern Cambodia, near the Vietnamese border.

Fondation Mérieux has been able to set up a laboratory offering a better quality in the hospital.

Partnerships developed with the World Health Organization, the Diagnostic Microbiology Development Programme and the US Naval Medical Research Unit 2 will provide training for laboratory staff and clinicians in the proper use of diagnostic molecular biology.
